Evergreen School District and Education Association narrowly avoid strike

VANCOUVER Wash. (NWNN) – School is starting Wednesday, August 31, as planned for nearly 27,000 students, thanks to a last minute agreement between the Evergreen Education Association and Evergreen Public Schools.

Early Monday, negotiators reached a tentative three year contract agreement which was ratified Tuesday night.

Under the terms of the new contract proposal, members will receive significant pay raises over the three year contract period.

Other key points in the agreement are the substitute shortage, more support for special needs students, and increased access to counseling and other support services for students.

Evergreen Public Schools is the fifth largest school district in Washington state with nearly 27,000 students, and the third largest employer in Clark County.
